OnApp allows hot and cold migration of virtual machines between hosts that share common data stores. Hot migration means moving a virtual machine while it is running. Cold migration means shutting down a virtual machine, then migrating it and bringing it back online.

Hot migration is not available for virtual machines based on Windows 2003 due to OS limitations. They must be cold migrated after being shut down.

To hot migrate a virtual machine:

1. Go to your Control Panel’s Virtual Machines menu.

2. Click the label of the virtual machine you want to migrate.

3. On the right side, click on the green “Tools” menu.

4. Under the VM Options section, click on “Migrate Virtual Machine”

5. Click the “Start Migration”  button.
