Maintaining Steadfast Support Access to Your Server

We strongly encourage rotating passwords on a routine basis. It is, however, important that access to fully managed machines update Administrator/root level credentials. This access is critical for us to respond proactively to any repair issues that arise on your server. Maintaining current information also speeds our ticket response times to standard support requests and allows us to enroll systems automatically in monitoring and backup services.  

For those servers running Linux, this needn't be a chore. All technical staff use SSH keys to allow fast and secure access. More information can be found in Securing SSH While Allowing Steadfast Support Access. CentOS users can use a custom-built RPM that will automatically update this information nightly. 

If you currently use Windows systems or do not wish to implement SSH key login, you can update your device's metadata in https://manage.steadfast.net. Remember to do so regularly if you've configured Windows to routine regular password rotation. 

Updating Login Information in Management Portal

Keeping us apprised of changes to system logins is simple. You can always open a ticket by emailing support@steadfast.net, or login to https://manage.steadfast.net to manage them directly and securely. 

  1. Login to https://manage.steadfast.net and navigate to "View Devices"

  2. Select the device by name. All IPs assigned to the system, as well as the device's location, label, and physical location

  3. Click "Edit" at the upper-right of the device's metadata. You can then enter new login information so that our staff has access to your server. For administrative access, the "root/Admin Password" field is the appropriate field to edit.
